About Me
I am a 24 year old Software Design Engineer at Adtran. I am a Christian and have acted as an assistant song director and as an AWANA teacher in a couple of different classes of children from 3rd grade through High School. This has greatly helped me with my understanding of the Bible and with my patience when dealing with children. I have been married to the wonderful Ruthe Myers since June of 2011. She is an absolutely awesome woman and God has blessed me so much to have put us together. I am also the oldest of four children. The oldest of my siblings, Elisabeth is a student at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, and the other two, Joshua and Hannah are both at least ten years younger than I.
Interests
Within the specific are of Computer Science I enjoy many things. I enjoy playing with and working with databases, I find it interesting to see what kind of work that I can get the database to do for me. A combination of triggers, foreign keys, and sub queries has aided me immensely in my capstone project. I also really enjoyed the exposure to Operating Systems that I have had at Tech and with that came an enjoyment of the C/C++ languages. I have also enjoyed the exposure to Linux throughout college and the systems programming course that had as well.
Outside of Computer Science, one of my largest interests is music. I played the trombone actively for 9 years. I learned to play in middle school, I continued thorugh marching, concert and jazz band in high school and played in the TTU Golden Eagle Marching Band for two years at college. I have also loved to sing my entire life. In high school I was part of a southern gospel quartet at my church, and while at Tech I was a part of an all mail group called Voicemale and am a part of the Caravan Singers, a traveling southern gospel choir.
I also love to read science fiction novels, other than the classic authors of Frank Herbert and Iaasic Asimov, one of my favorite authors is Peter F. Hamilton, an author known for his large "space operas." Another big interest is playing video games. However this interest somewhat crosses over into the field of Computer Science. I primarily play pc computer games, and this has always been because I enjoy trying to alter the games confiuration files or scripts in an attempt to change how the games work.
Computer Science Professional Experience
APES(Automated Process E-Management System)
During the summer of 2010 I was hired, along with Jarred Hall and Chason Choate, by Tennessee Technological University to prepare the APES system for use in the fall semester of 2010. Due to my experience with the APES project through my Software Analysis and Design course, I was tasked with modifiying the systems database and database layer to accommidate a new approval chain system for the system. I worked very closely with Chason Choate who was writing the GUI front-end for the approval chain system. Due to our close co-operation, once the front and back ends were integrated, we have heard of no problems with the approval chain system since.
TTU Laboratory TA
I have worked as a Laboratory Teaching Assistant for the TTU Computer Science Department since 2009. I have helped the students in these laboratories both by answering questions, and in some cases not answering questions. These laboratories have been taught in both Java and C/C++ and my own knowledge of these languages has been refreshed by my work.
